The new coop Ed built for giving our new pullets more room, for acclimating them to the outside, and for acclimating them to the older hens is still missing its metal roof, but I still managed to get it set up well enough that I could (and did) transfer our new pullets today.
I knew this day was coming as the birds were getting to be almost too big for the brooder we had in the basement. Because it was a nice day today, because they seem to have most if not all of their feathers, and because of the "crowding situation", I decided that today was the day.
We do have a small fenced in area by the coop door so that they can go outside and have some fresh air and grass; however, I kept the door closed for their first day and will likely keep it closed for the next day or two as they become more comfortable in their new environment. The move was a little stressful for them - but not that bad overall.
