Four Bales of Last Year's Hay (Grass Really) - No Chemicals
Four Bales of Last Year's Hay (Grass Really) - No Chemicals

While we did get woodchips delivered last fall for the garden, I've been wondering what we could use to keep the weeds down this year. Then, as I was in the local gas station/"general store", I noticed a sign for $20/round bale hay.

I called the guy and while it turns out he's only about 10 minutes away, he just had a guy call and sold all he had. He took my number anyway just in case something happened. At the same time, I confirmed "no chemicals". I kept the door open saying as you make more hay this year and have extra - let me know - "we're definitely interested" (you can never have enough organic matter when you have a garden; or so it seems to us).

Well - he called about 2 weeks later to ask if I still wanted some bales and how many bales I wanted. I said we'd take 4 and asked if he could deliver (for a fee of course). He said - he can do that. So now we have old grass (there's really no clover, etc. in the bales; they're also rather loosely packed) that we can use as mulch as we plant and try to keep the weeds at bay.

We decided to stay in touch. So grateful!
