Grass (and weeds) Growing Where the Pine Trees Used To Be

When we purchased the house a little over a year ago, there were 12 very tall evergreen / pine trees where there is now green grass (and weeds; and a big pile of brush and small logs).

This weekend, I got our riding lawn mower stuck a couple of times as I tried to mow the area. We may need to get and use a walking mower instead for some of the trickier parts of this area.
