June is dairy month, and we continued our tradition of going to the Vernon County dairy breakfast. This year, the event was held at the Lepke Farm, off Highway 14 north of Viroqua. It was a little easier to find than last years' event, which experienced rain. This year the weather was perfect, enough so that the parking area and dining area were starting to fill by the time we arrived a little before 7AM. The team was well-organized, with plenty of volunteers directing traffic and serving. The sheriff even provided traffic control off Highway 14. We opted for the steak breakfast, which included a steak with pancakes, eggs, and sausage, along with plenty of dairy items such as cheese curds, string cheese, milk, yogurt, and coffee. A small scoop of custard at the exit topped off the morning as we headed for the car.
